You made your way here so; is it safe to assume that you have a train-loving toddler in your life? My son turned 2 in 2023 but I had this theme picked out long before my son’s interest in trains actually peaked. There’s just something about a boy and his trains though, that is a sort of love that seems inevitable. By the Christmas before his 2nd birthday, my son was smitten with trains; although to be fair, I think he was most fascinated with building tracks and watching the train go. Nonetheless, I was happy he was on board (no pun intended) by the time his birthday came around and we had the best time. Chugga Chugga Two Two it’s time to hop onboard the birthday express.

Decor

I probably should’ve prefaced this entire blog entry with the disclosure that I was literally battling for my whole life on this day. At this point, I had only recently discovered I was pregnant . And as soon as I found out, here goes my mind messing with me. I was sick every day. So, I had to massively scale back the DIY plans I had because I simply could not keep up. All of that to say, the decor was very minimal.

I added simple train themed elements here and there but not much was really done. I set up this simple vinyl backdrop that featured a brick pattern and did a few balloons as a photo op background.

The entrance to the veranda I had this sign that said “Welcome to the Train Station.” I had a milestone plaque on display that had the same design elements as the invitation. I also made a few signs for the food and party favours tables.

Cake & Dessert

The cake is self explanatory. Im still gagging at the fact that I smudged it while taking it out of the box. I literally shed a tear irl. In hindsight, I regret not trusting myself enough to attempt smoothing it out but I hope it wasn’t as obvious to my guests.

The cookies deserve a moment for themselves. If you’re in Kingston, Jamaica be sure to find @thecookiestudioja on instagram and tell her I sent you for a sweet deal. The trains were actually hand painted. I’m always 1000% impressed by her work. Book her now and thank me later fr.

I had a few other bite sized desserts I purchased from the supermarket and finished off the dessert table with custom labelled water bottles. Just take a look at the sign and tell me the cookie girl didn’t snap. It’s the same train!! Unreal.

Party Favours

I customised these drawstring bags for the favours and packed them with a colouring pack, a vinyl labelled toddler cup and age appropriate snacks.

Entertainment

Entertainment was all rentals. I got a bounce house, a caterpillar tunnel and a massive ball pit with a slide. I also bought this ride on train and my son enjoyed it soo much. Two years later he still uses it.
